Prague, June 26 (CTK) – Almost 70 percent of Czechs agree with the reintroduction of regular recruitment and 63 percent of the polled support the resumption of the compulsory military service, according to a Median public opinion poll presented by Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky (ANO) Friday.
The Chamber of Deputies will now debate a draft amendment to the defence law.
One third of the polled said regular recruitment should definitely be reintroduced and 36 percent are rather convinced of this.
Eleven percent of Czechs are definitely against recruitment and 20 percent of people are rather against it.
The resumption of the compulsory military service is supported by 63 percent of the polled, 37 are against it, the poll showed.
It also found that 64 percent of people believe that women should also participate in the defence of the country in some form, but 86 percent said women’s recruitment should only be voluntary.
Fifty-five percent of people said they would not be ready to take part in a three-month military training.
Median conducted the poll on 1050 people aged between 15 and 60 at the beginning of June.
