Prague, Nov 28 (CTK) – The south Bohemian NGO I my (We, too), which helps families with disabled children, was declared the small non-profit organisation of 2016 on Monday, while the Portimo NGO, from south Moravia, and the Brno Diocesan Charity won the medium-sized and the big NGO categories, respectively.
The prize-giving ceremony was staged by the Civil Society Development Foundation (NROS) that organised the poll for the fourth time this year.
The award’s purpose is to highlight professionally-directed NGOs and their effective work.
The NGOs and their performance are annually assessed by experts from companies, offices as well as the non-profit sector. They annually shortlist three finalists who present themselves before a commission that chooses the winner from among them.
The I my NGO sends its workers to visit and advise families with disabled children. It lends aids and toys to them and organises mutual meetings and contacts.
Portimo deals with children and young people whom it offers consultations, personal assistance and other services. It organises preventative and volunteers’ programmes.
The Brno Diocesan Charity has resumed its operation quarter a century ago. It employs 1,300 people and cooperates with 13,000 volunteers. It annually provides help for 55,000 people in south Moravia, including disabled and homeless people, single mothers and incurable patients, immigrants and low-income families.
The prize awarded by the public went to the kindergarten and special elementary school for children with mental and combined disabilities in Nove Mesto nad Metuji, east Bohemia. Apart from school lessons, it offers canistherapy, a pottery workshop, the training of cooking skills and other activities.
The NROS was established 23 years ago with the aim to boost and develop the non-profit sector in the Czech Republic. Since the beginning, it has distributed more than 1.8 billion crowns among some 6,000 projects. Its subsidies come from donors as well as grants provided by the European economic area.
