Brussels, June 29 (CTK correspondents) – The terrorist attack, which killed 36 people at the Istanbul main airport on Tuesday night, again underlined the terrorist threat that should not be overshadowed by the present debate on Brexit, Czech PM Bohuslav Sobotka said after an EU summit meeting late at night.

Europe must intensify cooperation between the individual member states because of the fight against terrorism, Sobotka said in Brussels.

“When we are discussing the future of the European Union today and what we should do, one of the issues that the Czech Republic considers crucial is the question of guaranteeing security,” he said.

“Europe must be capable of providing security to its citizens, including security against terrorist attacks,” Sobotka said.

Three men arrived at the Ataturk airport in a taxi last night, they opened fire in the airport hall and they blew themselves up when the police started shooting at them. The suicide attackers, probably linked to the Islamic State group, killed three dozen people and wounded many more.

Sobotka pointed out that the Czech government started a project of upgrading the protection of the Prague international airport.

On Tuesday, British Prime Minister David Cameron and the leaders of the EU member states talked about the situation after Britain voted to leave the EU in a referendum last week.
