Berlin, Sept 29 (CTK correspondent) – Prague wants to intensify the Czech-Polish cooperation and enable the police corps of both countries to interfere on the territory of the other country, Interior Minister Milan Chovanec told CTK after a meeting with his German counterpart Thomas de Maiziere.

A similar agreement with Germany, which will enable police actions on the territory of the neighbouring country, up to ten kilometres of the border, will take effect soon.

“We are now preparing an amendment to the Czech-Polish agreement from 2002, wo we would like all three police corps to have the same possibilities in the tri-border area of the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland,” Chovanec said on Wednesday night.

He added that Germany had already signed a similar agreement with Poland.

The prepared Czech-Polish agreement is to take effect on October 1. It will enable a quick and operative intervention on the territory of the neighbouring country without its previous consent in case of an urgent need, for instance, an imminent threat to lives. This action will be allowed in a ten-kilometre belt along the Czech-German border.

“The Czech-German agreement should primarily help deal with three areas of crimes – drug crimes, migration and thefts and smuggling of cars,” Chovanec pointed out.

Some implementing decrees must yet be added to the agreement that was signed in Prague on April 28, 2015, he said.
