Most, North Bohemia, Oct 30 (CTK) – Treasure seekers revealed an unexploded aerial bomb from World War Two in Most on Sunday and the people living closer than one mile from the spot of the find had to be evacuated, the local police spokeswoman Jana Slamova told CTK.
Local town hall spokeswoman Alena Sedlackova said about 4000 people were evacuated in the town with 66,000 inhabitants.
She said the bomb disposal experts removed the detonator from the bomb and took it away to liquidate it.
The people from the afflicted neighbourhood were allowed to return to their homes after 16:30.
Those who had nowhere to go were driven to the sports stadium, she added.
Sedlackova said the bomb weighed 450 kilogrammes and it was found at 11:00 about half a metre underground.
Czech police bomb disposal service chief, Michal Dlouhy, told Czech Television (CT) that the find was extraordinary.
“We find smaller 250-kilogramme bombs rather often, but this has been a unique discovery in the last few decades,” he said.
