Prague, Dec 30 (CTK) – Security checks at Prague Castle, the seat of Czech heads of state, will continue, following recommendations to the Presidential Office by security forces, President Milos Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek told journalists on Saturday.

The Prague Castle introduced the often criticised measure last summer.

Most presidential candidates told CTK on Saturday that they were for the cancellation of the checks.

In November, the Presidential Office consulted the police, Prague Castle Guard and the Security Information Service on the security measures.

“Based on an analysis of the latest security risks and in harmony with their legal powers, the addressed security forces recommended that the security checks at the entrance to the Prague Castle compound should be preserved,” Ovcacek said.

He said the security forces had stated that the checks had considerably raised the security level at Prague Castle.

Ovcacek criticised those calling for the abolition of the checks.

“If anyone proposes the weakening of the protection of the Prague Castle, this means ignorance of the environment and risks as well as disrespect for the positions of security forces,” Ovcacek said, adding that such people preferred their own political goals to the protection of human lives and health.
