Prague, Nov 17 (CTK) – The communism victims were commemorated with a human chain created in National Street by several hundred people on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the fall of the previous regime within an event staged by the Bez komunistu (Without Communists) association on Tuesday.
This was one of events held in Prague and elsewhere across the country to mark the end of communism in the country and also against manifestations of hatred of migrants.
Some political parties and organisations staged anti-migrant events.
The initiative Against Manifestations of Hatred held a meeting under the motto This Country Belongs to All – Refugees Welcome.
Tomio Okamura, chairman of the Freedom and Direct Democracy movement, said “the government of the Czech Republic brands extremists those who want to defend the interests of their citizens. But we are no extremists, the extremists are Czech MEPs who voted for the migrant quotas.”
Okamura addressed a demonstration For Our Culture and Safe Country in Prague´s Wenceslas Square which the police said was attended by up to 4000 people.
The extremist Workers´ Party for Social Justice (DSSS) also staged a rally in Wenceslas Square. It was attended by about 200 people.
DSSS chairman Tomas Vandas said representative of the Czech government are collaborators and ordinary people will make it hot for them.
