Prague, Feb 22 (CTK) – Prague will not sign a partnership agreement with Beijing that includes cooperation in trade, tourism, culture and other spheres and in which the Czech capital city would pledge to recognise the “one-China” policy, Prague councillors decided after a discussion on Monday.
The cooperation between the two cities was proposed by Beijing. The agreement was to be signed for five years.
According to the agreement, Prague recognises the policy of one China and that Taiwan is an integral part of the Chinese territory. The agreement states that recognition of the one-China policy is in line with the position of the Czech government. The councillors did not approve the text of the agreement, however.
Beijing and Prague were also to cooperate in education, health care, transport and public services and their political representatives were to meet regularly.
In 2015, a direct airline was established between Prague and Beijing.
