Prague, Aug 23 (CTK) – Two door frame metal detectors were installed on Tuesday at one of the entrances to the Prague Castle compound within the tightened security measures that President Milos Zeman introduced, his spokesman Jiri Ovcacek has told journalists.

Ovcacek said he expects the situation to calm down within a few days.

A long queue of tourists who wanted to visit the Castle formed before the detector.

Security checks were introduced at Prague Castle at the beginning of August. Soldiers and police officers check the hand luggage of all the visitors.

Ovcacek said tourists had to wait maximally half an hour to enter the premises of the Prague Castle last week.

Further walk-through metal detectors may be installed at other entrances. Visitors to the St Vitus Cathedral will have to pass a detector soon as well.

The Presidential Office said the checks were introduced for the sake of an increased security of the tourists. The checks should prevent rifles from being carried into the Castle.

The office said the measures were motivated by the worsening security situation in Europe caused by terrorist attacks. It rejected the view that it is a reaction to a group of activists that replaced the presidential flag flying over the Castle with large red boxer shorts, making fun of Zeman and condemning his foreign policy.
