Prague, Nov 29 (CTK) – Several hundred of mostly young people marched through the city´s centre in order to attract attention to climate change on Sunday, on the eve of a United Nations conference on climate change that will start in Paris on Monday.

The organisers called on Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, who will represent the Czech Republic at the Paris conference, to free the country from its reliance on fossil fuels.

At Wenceslas Square, speeches were delivered. Some speakers pointed out that climate change threatened agriculture and food production and made the living of poor inhabitants of developing countries of the global South even harder, being one of the causes of the humanitarian disaster resulting in the growing numbers of people fleeing to Europe.

The gathering then marched to the Petrin Hill, shouting slogans such as “Give a chance to wind and sun” and “The future is renewable.” People in polar bear costumes reminded of the icebergs that are thawing due to climate change and threatening the survival of polar bears.

The events was organised by the Greenpeace, the Friends of the Earth and the Climate Coalition.
