Prague, Nov 12 (CTK) – Javelin thrower Barbora Spotakova, the bronze medallist from the Rio Olympics, won the Czech Athlete of the Year contest for the record eighth time on Saturday, winning 1,685 points in the poll, followed by pole vault jumper Jan Kudlicka (1,433) and 400-metre runner Pavel Maslak (1,222).
The award-giving ceremony took place in Prague’s hotel Ambassador-Zlata Husa.
With eight titles, Spotakova, 35, has comfortably surpassed the seven titles the previous record holders, javelin thrower Jan Zelezny and female shot putter Helena Fibingerova, each won in the past.
