Prague police officers negotiated with a man on the roof of the gynecology department of the Vinohrady hospital for about four and a half hours on Wednesday evening. He climbed down the ladder of a fire truck after being persuaded by a police negotiator.
“At around 5.30pm we received a report of a man on the roof of the gynaecology ward at the Royal University Hospital Vinohrady. Police officers started crisis communication with the man, who was subsequently negotiated with by called police negotiators,” police spokesman Jan Danek said.
The man often found himself on the very edge of the roof. At the scene, police were assisted by firefighters and paramedics. A SWAT team was also called in.
After about four and a half hours, a police negotiator managed to convince the man to allow himself to be lowered to the ground. Firefighters then reached the roof using a car ladder, which the man climbed onto and allowed himself to be lowered down.
There, accompanied by negotiators, he proceeded to an ambulance that arrived and transported him for further evaluation. The reason for his behavior is unknown.
