Anna Netrebko, a Russian opera vocalist, will not be taking the stage at Prague’s Municipal House in October. This decision was communicated by representatives from both the house’s management and the Nachtigall Artists Management agency, the entity behind the concert. The announcement was made during a press briefing today. Notably, the Prague coalition members have voiced their objections to Netrebko’s performance due to her presence on the Ukrainian sanctions roster.
Alena Kunertova, a spokesperson for the organizing agency, shared that this resolution was reached through mutual agreement. Netrebko has assured that she will not pursue compensation from the Prague-owned Municipal House.
Netrebko’s slated performance was originally scheduled for October 16th in the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House, an establishment held by the city through its corresponding joint-stock company. Vlastimil Ježek, the director of the company, affirmed that none of the involved parties advocated for the concert’s cancellation. However, he acknowledged that the event had evolved into a contentious political and societal matter. Consequently, both sides concurred that cancellation would be the optimal course of action. Those who had purchased tickets for the now sold-out concert will receive full refunds of their entrance fees.
