A tragic bus crash on the D2 motorway near Brno resulted in one person’s death and left 60 others injured today. The accident involved two buses, leading to the closure of the motorway in both directions for several hours. Emergency responders, including police, firefighters, and medical crews, rushed to the scene to provide assistance.
A trauma plan was activated to handle the high number of casualties, and 26 medical crews, along with three helicopters from the South Moravia, Olomouc, and Vysočina regions, were dispatched to transport the seriously injured to hospitals in southern Moravia. Firefighters played a critical role in rescuing twelve people from the wreckage and also provided psychological support to those affected.
According to reports, the accident took place between the exits to Chrlice and Blučina, on the D2 motorway in the direction of Brno. The motorway was closed in both directions since 15:52, causing significant traffic congestion on D2 and the exits from D1 to D2, as well as on the parallel road number 52 to Rajhrad.
Hana Albrechtová, the director of the South Moravian ambulance service, confirmed that 60 people were injured, with thirteen of them sustaining serious injuries and the remaining experiencing moderate or minor injuries. All the injured individuals were transported to hospitals in South Moravia, and no one needed to be transported outside the region.
Drivers were advised by the police to take alternative routes, and at 17:48, the motorway was reopened in the direction of Breclav. However, the section where the accident occurred, in the direction of Brno, remained closed until further notice.
