Want to know what’s new in the world of design and architecture but have no time to search? Don’t miss today’s Pecha Kucha at Kino Aero where 14 speakers active in the spheres of design, architecture, photography and landscaping will each show 20 slides for 20 seconds in the course of the evening, beginning at 20:20.

If you like poetry, especially the works of American poet Robinson Jeffers, go to the Municipal Library on Mariánské náměstí today. Professor Elliot Roberts, vice president of the Robinson Jefferson Tor House Foundation and author of many books inspired by Jeffers’ life and work; and Czech actress Táňa Fischerová will read Jeffers’ poetry from 6:30pm.

In mood for music and you are free on Thursday? And do you like vegetable? If yes is the answer, here is my recipe. Twenty large eggplants, 12 cucumbers, 3kg of dried beans, six heads of kale, three large pumpkins, three heads of lettuce and many other kinds of vegetable is what the Vienna Vegetable Orchestra ordered for their show at Palac Akropolis on 17 September. Yes, the group will play on vegetable instruments and after the show, the leek violin, carrot pipe and pumpkin drums will be turned into a soup and offer to the audience.

Or you can go for an open-air concert of Goran Bregovic. The icon of balkan music will play on Old Town Square from 7:30 with his Weddings and Funerals Orchestra. But no wedding or a funeral are the reasons of his visit. The gig, organised by the civic association Lastavica, is to express thanks to the citizens of former Yugoslavia living in the Czech Republic for their help and understanding during the last conflict in the Balkan country. Enjoy the fusion of balkan rhythms, Romani music and electronic sounds for free.

If you are more film oriented, you may want to take part in a panel discussion and book signing at the Globe Bookstore on Pštrossova on Thursday. Emmy-award nominated Casting Director and Prague resident, Nancy Bishop, will be there talking about the craft of film casting in front of camera and actors working in Prague. The event starts at 5pm with book signing and wine reception to follow.

Czech violinist and singer Iva Bittová will open the 14th Strings of Autumn international music festival with a performance at the Estates Theatre on 22 September. An exhibition on the Košice Gold Treasure opens today at the new National Museum building near the top of Wenceslas Square, presenting unique European coins. It is an opportunity to explore the building which until recently seated the Radio Free Europe and before the communist-era Federal Parliament.

The unique space of the Old Sewage Works in the Bubeneč is home to the fifth International Biennial Vestiges of Industry. On display are photographs and fragments of old buildings demolished in the last decade or those that are likely to be pulled down. The INDUSTRIALife project focuses on everyday affairs in such areas. Also on display are site-specific installations and new sound and visual tools for artistic production, which were created during a one-week workshop held in the sewage plant in August.

Thousands of East German refugees flooding the Prague embassy, abandoned Trabant cars, police actions during the Prague protests in the late 1980s, the fall of the Berlin Wall. A collection of 300 photographs from these events taken by 22 Czech photographers are on display at the Old Town Hall. The exhibition commemorating 20 years of freedom is on through 14 October.

New York-based artist Dana Bell has brought her collection of paintings illuminating great moments of 20th century cinema to Prague’s Dvorak Sec Contemporary gallery on Dlouhá street. Painted in colour and framed with geometric symmetry, Bell’s works revisit famous scenes from The River, The Stranger, A Hard Day’s Night, The Big Sleep and other great films. The Still(s) exhibit is the first in a series of exhibitions on display at Dvorak Sec Contemporary that will feature a selection of young, emerging artists primarily based in NYC. On display until 5 November.

Are you planning a weekend in the city? Prague’s Ladronkafest brings demonstrations of frisbee, parkour, discgolf, lacrosse, kiteboarding, breakdance, beatbox, yo-yo and many other free-time activities to Ladronka park on Saturday, 19 September. The events starts at 11am and ends in the evening.

On Sunday, the streets of Jugoslávská and Londýnská in Vinohrady will turn into a car-free pedestrian zone full of cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating, markets, playgrounds and theatrical venues. The event is part of European Mobility Week. Auto-Mat, the Prague-based initiative for sustainable transport and organiser of the event, will take you on its annual Critical Mass Bike Ride, starting from náměstí Míru at 2pm. The ride won’t be long so you will make it back for the 6pm fashion show of original designs created by Yaxi Taxi.

On Sunday evening, Britain’s Tiger Lillies return to Divadlo Archa to celebrate two decades of their self-proclaimed “anarchic Brechtian street opera” and present their new album, The Freakshow.

This year’s wine festivities continue this weekend at various places around Prague. Wine tasting, music, acrobats, kids activities and theatre will be the programme of Vinohradské vinobraní taking place from Friday to Sunday on Jiřího z Poděbrad, náměstí Míru and in Havlíčkovy sady. Another harvesting celebrations with folk music and burčák take place in Kampa park on Saturday; and on Old Town Square on Sunday from 4pm.
