On Saturday evening, a foreigner stabbed two people in Brno-Bystrc, resulting in the death of one victim in the hospital. The suspect is currently in police custody, facing charges of murder. The police have urged any witnesses to come forward and provide information. Police spokesman Petr Vala made this statement on the police website today. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of people were on their way to witness the fireworks display at the Brno dam.
According to the police spokesperson, a confrontation among several individuals occurred shortly before 8:00 p.m. near the Přístaviště tram stop in Brno-Bystrc, during which one man attacked and injured two people with a knife. “The victims had to be transported to the hospital due to stab wounds. Unfortunately, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries later at the hospital,” the spokesman explained.
Law enforcement promptly arrested the assailant at the scene and placed them in custody. The foreigner is being held on suspicion of committing the grave offense of murder. The police are appealing to the public for assistance, urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about its preceding events to immediately contact the emergency number 158. The officers also encourage individuals to provide any video footage of the altercation, which may have been captured on mobile phones or other devices.
Later in the evening, the first round of competition fireworks took place as part of the Ignis Brunensis entertainment festival, illuminating the skies above the Brno dam. The spectacle was witnessed by a large audience consisting of tens of thousands of people.
