Today marks the beginning of Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu’s visit to the Czech Republic. During his stay, he is scheduled to meet with Senate President Miloš Vystrčil (ODS) for approximately an hour. Additionally, on Wednesday, Minister Wu will participate in a security conference in Prague. An informal dinner with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Marketa Pekarova Adamová (TOP 09), is also on his agenda.
This visit will be Minister Wu’s second time in the Czech Republic. During his initial visit in 2021, he attended a conference organized by the Sinopsis project. He discussed topics such as supply chain restructuring amidst increasing geopolitical tensions involving Taiwan. He also had the opportunity to meet with Senate President Vystrčil, where they discussed matters of economic cooperation and cybersecurity.
On Wednesday, Minister Wu will be among the speakers at a security conference organized by the European Values Organization. President Petr Pavel has assumed patronage of the event this year and will deliver the opening speech.
Minister Wu’s visit to Prague is part of his broader trip encompassing other European countries. Last week, China issued a warning to European nations regarding official contacts with Taiwanese officials and support for “forces promoting Taiwan’s independence.”
In recent years, the Czech Republic has intensified its support for Taiwan. Notably, both the Senate President Vystrčil and Chamber of Deputies Speaker Pekarová have visited the island. Additionally, after his election, President Pavel held a telephone conversation with President Tsai Jing-wen.
