Prague, Dec 1 (CTK) – The Czech military withdrew Tuesday an online advertisement for the sale for 500 crowns of a German shepherd dog who was awarded for his participation in the Afghan mission, reacting to criticism mainly on the social networks, commercial Prima television station has reported.
Prima said the seven-year-old dog, Athos, will remain at the military veterinary base in Grabstejn, north Bohemia.
Athos was deployed in Afghanistan as a mine-detection dog. He was wounded in the explosion of a rocket fired by an Afghan rebel against the allied base in Logar Province in September 2012. U.S. doctors saved his life, but his health has been permanently damaged.
In January, Athos received from former defence minister Vlastimil Picek a plague with a large buffalo bone and a leather collar with a text appreciating his services and Picek´s signature.
The military said the dog has gained the position of a war veteran after he was wounded.
Still before, Athos received a hero quilt, which is a symbol of U.S. war veterans.
