Czech pavilion wins bronze medal at Expo 2015 in Milan

Milan, Italy, Oct 31 (CTK) – The Czech pavilion has won a bronze medal for architecture at the Expo 2015 international exhibition in Milan that ended on Saturday, the organiser has announced on Twitter.

The gold medal went to Britain and silver to Chile.

Expo 2015 was opened on May 1. Since then, the Czech pavilion has attracted more than two million visitors.

The pavilion, designed by the Brno-based studio Chybik&Kristof Associated Architects and built by the south Moravian company Koma, is unique because it is assembled of 50 modules. It can again be disassembled after the exhibition and taken back to the Czech Republic to serve for other purposes.

The simple white building included a pool as a symbol of the Czech spa tradition and desire for a sea and a restaurant where the traditional Plzen (Pilsen) lager beer was served. The pavilion had the capacity of 5,200 visitors a day.

The Czech exhibition in the pavilion focused on water as the leitmotif, and its cleaning by nanotechnology methods. It also presented the Czech Republic, its regions and successes in the fields of science and modern technologies.

During the exhibition, the Czech pavilion received several additional awards from visitors and the Italian media, for instance, for the cosies pavilion, for the most accommodating one to children and for the pavilion with the most beautiful roof garden.

The restaurant in the Czech pavilion, “La Baita del Cacciatore,” was listed among the three best at Expo.
