Prague, Sept 7 (CTK) – Traffic accidents on Czech roads during the summer holiday claimed 150 lives, which is 7 percent more than in 2014, with heat-related fatigue, carelessness and driving into the opposite direction having been frequent causes, traffic police head Tomas Lerch said Monday.

The police dealt with over 16,000 traffic accidents, checking 150,000 cars during the summer holiday in the country with a population of 10.5 million.

Lerch said the accidents also resulted in more than 500 serious injuries and the damage inflicted was higher than last year.

The police prepare a control action aimed at prevention of selling alcohol to the juveniles this autumn, Lerch said.

He said traffic accidents with several dead were a new phenomenon.

The police also focused on music festivals, in which several hundred crimes were registered. A man from Poland had 2.73 per mille of alcohol in blood when leaving one event.

Several dozen drivers were under the influence of opiates at a dance festival in July.
