Prague, July 9 (CTK) – The Czech government decided to contribute 600,000 crowns to the building of the Memorial to the Victims of Communism in Ottawa at its meeting on Wednesday, the Government Office and the Foreign Ministry have told CTK.

The Czech Republic will send the money to the Canadian NGO Tribute to Liberty through its diplomatic office in Ottawa.

“The donation will be added to the means that are still needed to successfully implement the construction of the memorial,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The costs of the memorial have been estimated at 5.5 million Canadian dollars.

Collections in Canada have yielded roughly 1.7 million Canadian dollars and the Canadian government that supports the project has contributed 3 million Canadian dollars to it.

Apart from the Czech Republic, Latvia has sponsored the project with an equivalent of 280,000 crowns.

The construction works are scheduled to start this summer and to end in 2016.
