Prague, Aug 8 (CTK) – Saturday was the hottest day of the year as the temperatures reached 39.8 degrees Celsius in the meteorological stations in Rez and Dobrichovice, central Bohemia, experts from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMU) told journalists.
Saturday’s temperatures have beaten a new record this year. The previous one was set on Friday, the experts said.
With its temperatures, the Czech Republic surpassed some Mediterranean countries.
On most of the stations that have been measuring temperature for over 30 years new records were set Saturday, but the absolute Czech record of 40.4 degrees Celsius was not beaten.
The highest temperatures were recorded in Husinec-Rez in the Praha-vychod district and in Dobrichovice in the Praha-zapad district.
The absolute record was set on August 20, 2012.
The temperature over 39 was also measured in Usti nad Labem, north Bohemia. It was 39.1 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures have risen over 38 degrees Celsius in another 18 places across the Czech Republic Saturday, the CHMU experts said.
