Prague, June 16 (CTK) – People in the Czech Republic consider radical Islam and international organised crime and terrorism the biggest threats for their country, according to a poll that the STEM agency released Tuesday.

The poll showed that people have recently become more afraid of Russia and an influx of refugees.

The number of people who consider Moscow a security risk for the country has more than doubled and reached 59 percent.

The influx of immigrants poses a security risk for the country according to 71 percent, while only 48 percent considered immigrants a risk in 2011.

Islamic radicalism is a big threat for 82 percent of Czechs, compared with 57 percent in 2011.

This is clearly related to the actions of the Islamic State movement, the pollsters said.

The fear of international organised crime and terrorism is widespread (78 percent), similarly as it was four years ago.

More than 40 percent of Czechs believe that natural disasters caused by climate change, globalisation, ethnic minorities and poverty in the developing countries pose a threat for their country, the poll showed.

Only a small number of people see China or the United States a threat for their country. Left-wing supporters are more wary of the USA and the right-wing supporters are more critical of Russia. Gender, age and political orientation otherwise had no marked influence on the stances of the respondents.
