Prague, Aug 24 (CTK) – There is no reason for the Czech Republic to adopt a new civilian protection concept along the model the German government approved on Wednesday, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) has said.

The Czech Republic has its own security situation which it will evaluate according to the results of the government National Security Audit, Sobotka said.

He asked for the audit last November and now the Interior Ministry is working on it.

The audit is to evaluate security threats and risks and to recommend measures.

“This is a long-standing process in which we want to look at various aspects,” Sobotka said.

The updated German concept is to ensure the functioning of the state and protection of population in crisis situations.

It recommends to the people that they create food and drinking water reserves.

The previous concept was drafted in 1995. German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said it was obsolete.

In the Czech Republic, the affairs of civilian protection are dealt with by local authorities, the Interior Ministry and firefighters, Sobotka said.

“I presume that within the audit, weak points willbe identified and recommendations will be formulated that will also relate to the reactions on the community level,” he added.

Germany has decided to go in its own way the Czech Republic should not only copy, Sobotka said.
