Prague, Dec 25 (CTK) – Prague Archbishop Cardinal Dominik Duka welcomed the homeless, elderly, refugees, disabled and lonely people at the traditional Christmas luncheon staged by the Community Sant’Egidio for the 16th time on Friday.
The guests were served at the Archbishopric Palace and in two monasteries in Prague.
“I wish you a beautiful Christmas day,” said Duka, in a ceremonial black robe, and wished them to spend shared moments in happiness and understanding at the festive luncheon.
Duka said Jesus Christ often did not have any place where to sleep, being dependent on understanding and sympathy.
“As a church, we have the understanding for you. On the other hand, I would like to beg you that, if possible, you try and return to your families, to find a way so that you do not have to suffer any longer,” Duka said.
Duka then said a Lord’s prayer along with all those present, passed all the tables, clinked a glass of champagne and shook the hands of all.
There was the traditional menu, a soup and the main course, followed by a dessert with Christmas sweets and fruit.
All the guests received some gifts.
A total of 380 people were invited to the table where they were provided care by 100 volunteers.
Across the world, over 200,000 people met at a Christmas table at the invitation of Sant’Egidio.
