Estonian project wins main award at Prague Quadrennial

Prague, June 22 (CTK) – “The United Estonia” Estonian project received the main award for the best exposition at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space (PQ), the largest scenography event in the world, yesterday.
The golden medal for the best design went to Belgium, while the award for the best curator’s concept was bestowed on a project from the Netherlands. Chinese creators won the best scenography award.
The international jury assessed a number of categories, such as the best design at the exhibition, an innovative approach to stage design as well as the most distinctive student’s talent.
A total of 22 awards have been presented.
The jury included directors Kirsten Dehlholm, Antonio Araujo and Dmitry Krymov, stage designers and artists Eloise Kazan, Katrina Neiburga, Kamila Polivkova and Dominic Huber, art theoretician Joslin McKinney and architect Radivoje Dinulovic.
The winning Estonian display introduces a fictitious movement established by the NO99 Theatre that became a relevant political force within two months. According to some polls, it enjoyed 25-percent support. The project also won the gold medal for an innovative approach to scenography.
PQ, which ends on June 28, presents works and artists from 78 countries.
Every four years since 1967, PQ has been exploring and presenting the most up-to-date trends in performance design and architecture of the performing space.
