Prague, Aug 6 (CTK) – Fraud charges have been levelled against a Slovak man who had welfare bonuses over material distress paid to him while he owned 107 passenger cars, Czech daily Pravo writes yesterday, citing police spokesman Alexander Szabo from Kosice, east Slovakia.
The man was collecting the welfare payment between September 2012 and April 2015, Pravo writes.
In the meantime, he became the owner of 107 passenger cars of various makes, it adds.
As a result, he was not eligible for the welfare, Pravo writes.
The job office has enumerated the damage at 5,100 euros, it adds.
The man did not inform the authorities about the purchase of the cars, Pravo writes.
“He hid the fact that he was not eligible to the distress benefits,” Szabo said.
If convicted, the man can receive a five-year prison term, Pravo writes.
Jan Varga, director of the district inspection office in Michalovce, east Slovakia, said some Slovaks from poor social groups were paid a minimum reward for becoming official owners of the cars that are registered in Slovakia, but Ukrainians are their real owners.
