Prague, Sept 6 (CTK) – Europe is failing in dealing with the migration crisis, it is inflexible in its reaction to the current developments, Czech Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky (ANO) and Petr Fiala, head of the opposition Civic Democrats (ODS), agreed on Prima television yesterday.
They came out against mandatory refugee quotas, and called for a better protection of the Schengen border and for a greater participation in the struggle against Islamic State.
Stropnicky said the EU’s reaction to the migration wave is rigid, all shortcomings of its “deplorable or almost non-existent joint foreign and security policies” are surfacing.
Europe is unable to adequately protect its security, Fiala said.
“If Europe is committing suicide in some respect, then it is in its attempt to solve the migration crisis in the form of quotas, sending people where they do not want to go,” Fiala said.
Stropnicky added that it requires no special intelligence to be against a nonsense.
Both Stropnicky and Fiala said one of the ways towards resolving the migration crisis is the stabilisation of the Middle East and the countries from which the migrants are coming.
They also agreed on the need for a more consistent struggle against Islamic State.
Fiala said he is convinced that a military intervention against it will be unavoidable sooner or later and that he would welcome Russia’s participation in a broader international operation.
Stropnicky said he believes that the West and Russia could cooperate in the middle term in solving the situation in Syria.
