Prague, Oct 26 (CTK) – Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka decided today that the Government Office will send five million crowns, which it saved on its operation costs, to the United Nations World Food Programme, the office’s spokesman Martin Ayrer has told CTK.
“This weekend, I saw with my own eyes in the Jordan refugee camp in Zaatari, where more than 80,000 war refugees live, the importance of and need for the humanitarian and financial aid that the United Nations and the Czech Republic provide for this purpose. We are ready to keep providing the aid,” Sobotka said.
On Saturday, Sobotka said the Czech Republic is ready to send Jordan 100 million crowns in 2016 to help it deal with the refugee crisis. He also said the Czechs offered medical aid and military training.
The increased aid for Jordan and the World Food Fund would be recommended by the Foreign Ministry and discussed by the cabinet next week, Sobotka said today.
The World Food Fund provided food aid to approximately 80 million people in 75 countries a year, focusing on women, children, elderly and ill people in regions stricken by wars or natural disasters.
