Prague, Dec 22 (CTK) – The European Commission Vice-President and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, will meet Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek in Prague on January 11, Zaoralek´s press section announced yesterday.
Originally, Mogherini was to come to the Czech Republic on November 19, but the visit was cancelled. According to the Foreign Ministry, the visit was postponed due to Zaoralek´s leg injury.
But a diplomatic source unofficially told the public Czech Radio (CRo) that Mogherini postponed her visit because some Czech politicians, including President Milos Zeman, automatically linked Islam and refugees with terrorism.
At a Prague rally on November 17, Zeman addressed the crowd along with a far-right activist campaigning against Islam. Zeman repeatedly connected terrorism and Islam in his speeches.
According to CTK´s sources, the Foreign Ministry still expected Mogherini to arrive on the eve of her visit. Zaoralek had to reduce his working programme due to his injured ankle for nearly three weeks. He still walks on crutches.
Zaoralek said previously Mogherini´s visit was an opportunity to present the Czech position on hot international affairs more thoroughly. He planned to talk about higher participation of the European Union in dealing with the problems occurring in Europe´s close neighbourhood.
