Prague, March 14 (CTK) – President Andrzej Duda and his wife Agata arrived in Prague and the presidential couple met Poles living in the Czech Republic at the Polish Embassy and Duda awarded some of them this afternoon, the embassy told CTK.
Reading to children, Duda then took part in the projects 2016 – Year of Henryk Sienkiewicz and Every Czech reads to Kids.
The official visit by Duda will start on Tuesday with talks with his Czech counterpart Milos Zeman, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and heads of both houses of parliament, Jan Hamacek and Milan Stech.
Zeman’s spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said the two presidents would discuss cooperation between the Visegrad Group (V4) countries in their stances on the migrant crisis and the development of transport corridors.
V4 comprises Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
The Polish Embassy said Duda and Zeman would discuss the NATO summit that will be held in Warsaw in July.
Duda will remember the 1050th anniversary of the introduction of Christianity in Poland. In April 966, Polish ruler Mieszko I was baptised. According to chroniclers, Mieszko’s wife was Doubravka (Dobrawa) of Bohemia and had a major influence on his decision to accept Christianity.
On the occasion of this anniversary, Duda will receive the Czech Order of White Lion and Zeman will receive the Polish Order of the White Eagle, the highest decorations of the two states.
The Czech Government Office said the talks between Duda and Sobotka would cover current European affairs, the V4 cooperation and development of transport and energy infrastructure between the two neighbouring countries.
Duda will also lay a wreath to the tomb of Vaclav Havel, the first Czech post-communist president.
The Polish Embassy said Havel has become a symbol of the rebellion and the fight for freedom in the Czech Republic.
Duda will also meet Polish entrepreneurs operating in the Czech Republic.
