Prague, March 17 (CTK) – Spanish actress Carmen Maura, Slovak actress Emilia Vasaryova and Italian director Marco Bellocchio received the Kristian award for their artistic contribution to world cinematography at the opening of the 23rd Febiofest international film festival in Prague this evening.
The festival will present 150 films from 56 countries, first in Prague and later in other Czech towns.
Maura, 70, is best known for her cooperation with Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar. Emilia Vasaryova, 73, is a respected stage and screen actress who played in a number of Czech films. Bellocchio, 76, started making films in the 1960s.
At the festival’s opening, the film Carol (2015), directed by Todd Hayness after a novel by Patricia Hingsmith, a romance about the love of two women, was screened.
The Kristian award will also be given to Scottish actor Peter Mullan and British scriptwriter Peter Morgan during the festival.
The Prague part of the festival will end on March 25. From March 29 to April 21, the Echoes of Febiofest will be held in 14 towns.
The festival will be accompanied by Febiofest Music Fest, offering concerts.
