Prague, April 28 (CTK) – Nordic countries will be the guest of honour at the Book World Prague 2016 international book fair and literary festival that will be held on May 12-15, the festival’s director Dana Kalinova said yesterday.
Books from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden will be presented on the festival’s premises and 17 Nordic writers will take part in the programme.
The Nordic guests will include Katja Kettu (The Midwife) from Finland and Jostein Gaarder (Sophie’s World) from Norway and two winners of the Nordic Council Literature Prize, Kim Leine from Denmark and Sjon from Iceland.
The event will offer 405 stalls presenting books from 26 countries, 20 films, 42 theatre performances and 26 exhibitions. The annual prize for the spreading and promotion of Czech literature abroad will be given to Marketa Goetz-Stankiewicz from Canada.
On the eve of the 22nd festival, the Literature Nights offering public readings of contemporary European literature will traditionally be held in 21 places in Prague.
Within the section of crime fiction, Czech and foreign writers and literary critics will meet the public and take part in discussions.
As part of the festival, the 10th Das Buch project focusing on the works of contemporary German-writing authors will take place. Six writers and two new translations of novels about Rainer Maria Rilke and painter Chaim Soutine will be presented this year.
