Prague, Aug 30 (CTK) – The captain of the Czech national football team, Tomas Rosicky, 35, who ended with Arsenal after ten years after last season, is returning to Sparta Praha, which will present him as its new reinforcement this afternoon.
Since the European Championship, Rosicky has been recovering from a muscle injury.
According to backstage information, Rosicky will sign a one-year contract with Sparta.
Rosicky started his professional career with Sparta. In May 1999, he made his debut in the first league where he played 42 matches for Sparta and scored eight times.
In 2001, he transferred to Dortmund for 449 million crowns. He was the most expensive player of the Czech and German leagues at the time.
Rosicky, who has played 105 times for the national team, said several times in the past that he would like to return to Sparta in the future.
Both Sparta’s owner Daniel Kretinsky and coach Zdenek Scasny have long been greatly interested in the experienced midfielder.
Rosicky played his latest match against Croatia at EURO in France, in which he suffered a thigh muscle partial rupture and did not play against Turkey in the group’s final match.
Rosicky, three-times winner of the Footballer of the Year Czech poll, said after EURO he will consider his future on the national team.
During his five years with Borussia Dortmund, Rosicky contributed to the team’s German Bundesliga title and participation in the UEFA Cup final.
In 2006, he left for Arsenal where his play was largely limited by his health problems. After he suffered from a popliteus tendon injury in January 2008, he did not play for 20 months. He was haunted by health problems in the following years as well. In the last season, he did not appear in the Prime League at all and he only played for the junior team before EURO. He won the FA Cup twice with Arsenal.
