Bratislava, Nov 8 (CTK) – Most Slovaks assess Czech President Milos Zeman, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump negatively, while Slovak President Andrej Kiska receives the best ratings, according to a poll conducted by the Focus agency in September.
It was worked out for the Globsec Policy Institute NGO.
The poll shows that only 32 percent of Slovaks assess Zeman positively, while 60 percent view him negatively.
Merkel is the most negatively assessed politician as 74 percent of respondents view her so. The pollsters say this is connected with the migrant crisis in which Germany accepted refugees en masse, while Slovakia was against it.
Negative views also prevail in the assessment of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Hungarian PM Viktor Orban and Slovak PM Robert Fico.
The camps of critics and supporters of Russian President Vladimir Putin are more balanced, Yet a negative view prevails; 52 percent assess him negatively and 43 percent positively.
When it comes to the U.S. presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton is more popular as 50 percent of the polled assess her positively and 41 percent negatively. Unlike her rival candidate Trump who has only 19 percent of supporters in Slovakia, while 69 percent view him negatively.
Current U.S. President Barack Obama has more supporters than opponents in Slovakia.
Kiska is assessed the most positively in the Focus poll.
Over two-thirds of Slovaks or 68 percent support the country’s EU membership, while 54 percent want Slovakia to stay in NATO.
The far-right Kotleba-People’s Party Our Slovakia (LSNS) started collecting signatures on a petition for a referendum for Slovakia’s departure from the EU and NATO in the summer.
