Prague, March 8 (CTK) – Spanish actress Carmen Maura, 70, a muse of film director Pedro Almodovar, and Scottish actor Peter Mullan, 56, famous from Danny Boyle’s films, will be among the five guests awarded at the 23rd Febiofest international film festival in Prague, its organisers told reporters yesterday.
This festival is to be held in Prague on March 17-25 and then in other Czech regions and150 films from 56 countries will be presented, they added.
“Maura, along with Slovak actress Emilia Vasaryova and Italian director Marco Bellocchio, will receive the Kristian award for the artistic contribution to world cinematography at the festival’s opening in the Municipal House,” Febiofest programme director Stefan Uhrik said.
The same award will be presented to British scriptwriter and playwright Peter Morgan at the closing ceremony, while Mullan will be awarded during the festival.
One of the most distinguished European actors, Daniel Bruehl, will also visit Febiofest this year.
The festival will present the newly created Amnesty International Febiofest Award to highlight the unjustly imprisoned artists and journalists in the world.
In cooperation with the Czech Mint, Febiofest will again issue a commemorative medal, this year to mark Czech actor Rudolf Hrusinsky (1920-94). The festival audience will for the first time have a chance of choosing the film personality whose medal will be issued next year.
Ticket sales start in the festival’s main venue, the CineStar Andel multiplex, at 12:00 on March 9 and in the CineStar Cerny Most at 14:00 on the same day. Online sales will be launched on www.febiofest.cz and www.cinestar.cz one minute before midnight on March 9.
The festival’s accompanying programme, Febiofest Music Fest, will offer a number of concerts for free in the Cinestar Andel garages.
After the Prague event, part of the festival’s programme will be presented in 14 Czech towns within the Echoes of Febiofest from March 29 to April 21.
