A restaurant operator can be fined up to 50 million crowns for violating the food law.
Inspectors of the State Veterinary Service (SVS) found 30 kilograms of substandard meat during an inspection of an oriental restaurant on Opletalova Street in the center of Prague. The food could not be traced back to its origin.
Some of the products had already expired, said Petr Mayer, spokesman for the veterinary department.
The inspectors found chicken thigh cutlets, half-cooked chicken, beef and lamb fat at the facility. They also found a package with five kilograms of chicken meat, on which the manufacturer indicated an expiration date of June 7.
The meat was marked on the spot with paint to prevent its further sale and ordered it to be disposed of at a processing plant.
“The operator could be fined up to 50 million crowns for violating the Food Law,” Majer added.
