The global financial crisis put heavy breaks on the plans to adopt the common European currency by the major CEE countries. After having proudly joined the European community in 2004, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary missed the opportunity to start the procedure right after accession, unlike their neighbor, Slovakia.
