The total costs incurred by health insurers in the Czech Republic reached CZK 64.2bn in Q1 2016, up 2.0% y/y. Totally 95.2% of the costs were spent on medical services. Czech Statistical Office’s (ČSÚ) government and financial account section director Václav Rybáček has stated that institutional care accounted for 52.9% of the medical service costs. Spending on prescription drugs and medical aids reached 16.9% of the total costs and outpatient services provided by specialists formed 16.4% of the costs. The insurance companies had totally 5,811 employees.
