Prague, Aug 4 (CTK) – Prague Castle, the seat of Czech heads of state, was the most visited tourist destination with almost 1.9 million visitors in the Czech Republic last year again, the agency CzechTourism has said in an overview.
The second place went to the funicular leading up to the Prague Petrin Hill with 1.5 million, while it was in the ninth place in 2014.
The Prague zoo was seen by 1.3 million, thanks to which it assumed the third place.
The most attractive destinations include the Ostrava-Vitkovice, north Moravia, former industrial complex turned into national cultural heritage and the AquaPalace water park in Prague-Cestlice.
Czechs also like excursions to breweries, including the exhibition of the Plzensky Prazdroj (Pilsner Urquell) brewery.
The first 20 tourist destinations comprise nine in Prague and three in northern Moravia.
“Four tourist destinations out of the top ten represent industrial heritage, confirming their strong position in tourism,” CzechTourism director Monika Palatkova has said.
For the first time, the agency included other industrial sights such as the Dlouhe Strane pumped hydroelectric energy storage plant.
Last year, Czech hotels and boarding houses provided accommodation for 17.2 million guests, 10.2 percent more than a year ago.
There were 8.7 million foreign visitors, 7.3 percent more than in 2014.
