rague, Aug 5 (CTK) – A historical meteorological pillar that served for weather forecasts was unveiled in the Dejvice neighbourhood in Prague this afternoon, Jan Trejbal, who came up with the idea, has told CTK.
Now it only shows the basic data on the temperature, air pressure and humidity. It is yet to be repaired, Trejbal said.
The meteorological pillar is from the Ujezd village near Prague.
“The local authorities wanted to get rid of the pillar. It was sold in a tender, in which only I participated,” Trejbal, an architect by profession, said.
He said he had bought the pillar for 1200 crowns.
Trejbal has been dealing with this type of heritage since 2009.
“It has fascinated me how the pillar in the public space spreads meteorological information,” he added.
Historical meteorological pillars served for weather forecasts from 1850 on.
Until World War Two, about 400 of them were manufactured across Europe.
At present, there are still some 40 of them in the Czech Republic.
Trejbal said one or two of them were disappearing each year, while volunteers mostly cared for the rest.
