c Prague, April 10 (CTK) – The Prague Planetarium will put on display an exact replica of the lander from the Vostok 1 spaceship in which the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin journeyed into the outer space, Jan Sifner, from the Planetarium, has told CTK.
The replica will be displayed on April 12 to mark the 55th anniversary of Gagarin’s flight in 1961.
It will be part of a new exhibition highlighting Gagarin, a Soviet cosmonaut, and the conquest of outer space.
The replica’s diameter is 2.5 metres, Sifner said.
“We have produced it according to the documents we had at our disposal. It is actually one of the most exact replicas in the world,” he said.
Sifner said it was uneasy to get in the lander which was packed with equipment and offered only little space for the cosmonaut.
The replica has been made of materials close to the original, such as aluminium, resin, iron and lamination, Sifner said.
The Planetarium will also stage other events to mark the Gagarin flight anniversary, including a discussion meeting with Russian cosmonaut Sergei Zalyotin and the screening of a feature documentary on Gagarin.
