There was a time, in the early 1970s, when the director Miloš Forman was living on USD 7 a week, and his daily diet consisted of a can of chili con carne and a bottle of beer. Four decades and two best director Oscars later, Mr. Forman reclined on a tawny leather sofa at his 64-acre estate here, puffed on a USD 39 cigar and reflected on his good fortune.
