Renowned Czech sociologist Ivo Možný dies

Prague, Sept 10 (CTK) – Renowned Czech sociologist Ivo Mozny, who laid the foundations of modern Czech sociology after the November 1989 fall of communism, died at the age of 84 Saturday, the Lidovky.cz server reported Saturday, referring to information from his family.
In his lifelong work, Mozny mainly focused on the family research, he also dealt with sociology of intimacy and social politics.
Mozny, born in Prostejov, south Moravia, in 1932, completed philology studies in 1957 and he became doctor in sociology in 1967.
He worked as an editor and a reporter of Czechoslovak Radio in Prague, Ostrava, north Moravia, and Brno several years. From the 1960s, he worked at the sociology chair of the Faculty of Arts in Brno.
After the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia, Mozny was banned from lecturing at universities and he worked in the marriage counselling office.
He could continue his academic career and research work only after November 1989. He became professor in 1992.
In 2011, Mozny was appointed professor emeritus of Masaryk University in Brno. In 2015, he received the Neuron award for his contribution to social sciences.
