Prague, April 26 (CTK) – Czech film Photographer (Fotograf, 2015), written and directed by Irena Pavlaskova, won the Gold Remi Award at the 49th Annual Worldfest-Houston film festival held in Texas on April 8-17, the project’s spokeswoman Helena Hejcova told CTK yesterday.
The story of the film is inspired by the life and work of world famous Czech photographer Jan Saudek, 80, who has also participated in the screenplay.
“WorldFest is one of the biggest and most prestigious festivals in the United States. Its programme offers more than 4,500 films from 37 countries. The Remi Award bears the name of Frederik Remington, an excellent U.S sculptor and painter who spent a major part of his life in Texas,” Hejcova said.
Photographer has been presented at a number of international festivals from Montreal, Canada, to Calcutta, India.
“In the Czech Republic it has been the second most successful film of the year in terms of attendance,” Hejcova said.
Since its premiere last January, 200,000 viewers have seen it in cinemas. It was also released on DVD and Blu-ray.
The film was produced by the Cineart and Eydelle companies in cooperation with the public Czech Television (CT) and supported by the State Cinematography Fund.
