Prague, Sept 29 (CTK) – The 52nd Golden Prague festival of music and dance television programmes, which starts in the National Theatre’s New Scene on Wednesday, will include a three-day programme at the unused Prague-Zizkov cargo railway station, its director Tomas Motl told journalists yesterday.
The personalities of the festival, organised by public Czech Television (CT), are world-known Czech-born choreographer Jiri Kylian and singer and actress Sona Cervena, who will be awarded for her life achievement.
“Our aim is to bring Golden Prague and its programme closer to people. We want not only to make the festival visible, but also rid classical dance and music of the persisting label of something exclusive and closed to people,” Motl said.
The festival will present 72 films by 40 producers. The highest number, 18, are from Germany.
The international jury will be comprised of representatives from Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Japan and Sweden.
Within the accompanying programme on Friday, the festival will present a portrait of Kylian together with two films one of which was made by him.
On the same day, Cervena, who turned 90 on September 9, will perform The Kitchen Revue, a melodrama by Bohuslav Martinu.
On Saturday, the festival will culminate with a series of live performances outside the National Theatre together with two guided tours of the building.
Visitors can watch the competing films at the New Scene and in the Cinestar cinema. The opening ceremony will be transmitted on the Internet and Saturday’s prize-giving ceremony will be broadcast by the CT Art channel.
