ČR to earmark CZK 68m to cultural heritage abroad

Prague, Dec 5 (CTK) – The Czech Republic is to earmark up to 68.7 million crowns for the programme of support for the Czech cultural heritage abroad in 2016, according to the Foreign Ministry´s proposal, released to CTK, that the government will debate on Monday.
The projects mainly focus on the development of the Czech language knowledge abroad, including the teaching of the youngest generation of Czechs as well as Czech schools without borders, Czech tutors at foreign schools and the offer of other educational activities, such as scholarships for expatriates, the proposal says.
A smaller part of the total sum will go to the maintenance and repairs of the facilities for expatriates in various countries.
In 2016, the Czech government will particularly fund up to 15 two-term stays at public Czech universities and 60 summer language courses lasting 40 days in the Czech Republic for expatriates. Up to 15 Czech teachers are to be sent abroad to teach in Czech communities.
The government will also allocate financial contributions to expatriates´ association abroad. Apart from European countries, the subsidies will go to Argentina, Australia, Chile, Namibia and Saudi Arabia.
The major part of the funding will be released from the budget of the Education Ministry (47.5 million crowns), followed by the Foreign Ministry (21 million crowns) and the Health Ministry (200,000 crowns).
According to the Foreign Ministry´s proposal, the funding of the programme should not exceed 68.65 million crowns annually in 2017 and 2018.
