Prague, Sept 15 (CTK) – The Czech police are prepared for a further influx of refugees and they would introduce border checks or call in the military in case of the most unfavourable scenario, Police President Tomas Tuhy told reporters yesterday.
He said the police have submitted a document to the government for discussion, which outlines several alternative scenarios depending on a possible security risk posed by an increasing number of refugees.
The currently applied measures are adequate and the situation on the border is calm, Tuhy said.
After Germany reintroduced checks along its border with Austria on Sunday, the Czech foreigner police sent 200 more officers to the border with Austria.
As a result, 700 Czech police officers are serving outside their regular units now, Tuhy said.
The police say more refugees might try to reach Germany via the Czech Republic instead of Austria now.
Tuhy said further developments are impossible to predict. The Czech police cooperate with the neighbouring countries where they have sent their representatives. As a result, they will be prepared for a possible wave of immigrants in time, he said.
In case the Czech Republic’s security is endangered, the police may stop trains coming from abroad, for example, Tuhy said.
The Czech foreigner police have detained 47 refugees between the midnight and morning yesterday, and a total of 81, plus 56 people smugglers, since the Czech border protection was toughened in reaction to Berlin’s step on Sunday evening.
Immigration to the Czech Republic rose by about 109 percent in the first seven months of the year. A total of 6,092 foreigners were uncovered in the country, which is 3,214 more than in the same period of 2014, foreigner police head Milan Majer said.
Hungarians and Swedes prevail among the detained people-smugglers, who, however, also include one Czech citizen, said Tuhy.
