Prague, Aug 18 (CTK) – Zdenek Lycka, former Czech ambassador to Denmark, has become the new head of the Czech Centres run by the Foreign Ministry and aimed to promote Czech culture and the good name of the Czech Republic abroad, the ministry told CTK yesterday.
The Czech Centres are seated in 22 cities on three continents.
Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek (Social Democrats, CSSD) appointed Lycka as the organisation’s head as from August 17.
Before, Lycka was the Czech Centres deputy director in charge of the strategy and development section.
In the past, he was Czech ambassador to Denmark, head of the Czech Centre in Stockholm and head of the ministry’s department for culture and expatriates.
In the competition for the post, held in June, Lycka defeated 12 rival candidates.
When choosing the winner, the seven-member commission comprised of the ministry officials mainly assessed the candidates’ professional experience and competence, personal appearance, their draft concept of the Czech Centres’ operation, language proficiency and other skills and knowledge, the ministry said.
