Prague, Aug 18 (CTK) – The French, Israeli and Swedish governments have offered mobile radars to the Czech military, the Defence Ministry told CTK in a press release yesterday.
According to the previous information, the ministry was to pay some 3.6 billion crowns for eight mobile radars.
Defence Ministry spokesman Petr Medek said Deputy Defence Minister Daniel Kostoval had received bids from the three countries’ ambassadors on Wednesday.
“On the same day, an assessment commission started working. It is comprised of 33 experts across the defence sector, including the University of Defence, who guarantee particular professional areas in view of the complex and comprehensive character of the system,” Medek said.
The commission will assess whether the bids are complete and then whether they meet more than 80 percent of the basic criteria. The first selection phase should be completed by mid-September.
“The bids that pass the first phase will be further assessed by a mathematical multi-criteria model, including over 360 economic-technical parameters. The ministry will select the winning supplier by the end of this year,” Medek added.
“The acquisition in the government to government regime is a transparent way that will guarantee us not only a business partnership, but primarily the opportunity to deepen cooperation in the military sector,” Defence Minister Martin Stropnicky (ANO) said.
The new 3D MADR radars are to replace the outdated Soviet-made radars and secure the military an overview of the air situation at the altitudes from 100 do 3000 metres.
“It will create preconditions to secure an active air defence in connection with the replacement of the 2K12 KUB anti-aircraft missile complex,” Medek said.
The contract also includes logistic support during the 20-year technical lifespan of the equipment.
According to previous information, the Swedish Saab wanted to offer its Giraffe 4A radar, the Israeli Elta Systems promoted its ELM 2084 MMR (Multi-Mission-Radar) and the Thales Raytheon Systems French producer might bid its GM 200 or GM 400 radars.
The BAE Systems British firm was also interested in the contract. However, Britain announced in July that it would not take part in the tender since the British radar did not meet the required conditions.
